> Chiang Mai's biggest weekly market starts at Tha Phae Gate. What we bought and what it cost: resin and wooden crafts, notebooks, co-ord sets, crab cakes, plus how to plan your evening there.

The **Sunday Night Market** is Chiang Mai's biggest weekly market, and the one to plan your trip around. We started at 6 pm, left exhausted at 10:30, and had seen maybe half.

## Where & when
It starts at **Tha Phae Gate** and runs deep into the Old City. It's divided into zones, so you walk straight in and weave left and right through the lanes. **Arrive early.** Stalls are still setting up around 5–6 pm, and by 7 it's packed.

## What we found (and prices)
- **Resin crafts**: 250–450 baht depending on size. Some small pieces were 300 baht.
- **Wooden crafts and Ganesha figures**: from about 135–350 baht.
- **Notebooks**: 50 baht.
- **Co-ord sets and pyjama sets**: around 250 baht.
- **Snacks**: 5 for 200 baht. **Crab cakes**: 4 for 70 baht.
- Tribal-style bags and charms, door hangings, "lucky frogs", embroidered and 3D-printed decor.
- "Original pearls" for 300 baht? They're not original.

**Prices drop as you go deeper into the market**, away from the gate, so don't buy the first thing you see. Bargain politely.

## Food
Grilled skewers, momo-style dumplings with sauce, sweet chilli everything, and lots of Thai street food. Mention it if you don't want it spicy.

## Tips
- Carry **cash in small notes**.
- Wear comfy shoes, because it's a long walk.
- If you're only in Chiang Mai midweek, the Saturday market and the Night Bazaar are smaller alternatives.

## FAQs

**Where does the Chiang Mai Sunday Night Market start?**
At Tha Phae Gate, running into the Old City along Ratchadamnoen Road and its side streets.

**Is the Sunday market better than the Saturday market?**
For us, yes. It's much bigger and busier, and worth planning your trip around.
