**Genting Highlands** is a cool hill resort near Kuala Lumpur: theme parks, temples, a casino, shopping and one of the most scenic cable cars around. Here's our day trip and the mistake you shouldn't repeat.

## Getting there
- **Taxi** from our KL hotel to **Awana Skyway station**: **90 RM**. Comfortable and quick.
- **Bus**: about **10 RM**, bookable on Red Bus Malaysia. The first bus leaves **KL Sentral at 7:30 am**, and the last one back from Awana Skyway is at **10:30 pm**.

Lush mountains, fresh air and rainforest views all the way up to the theme park. **Come early.** Mornings have short queues, afternoons get crowded. We booked tickets in advance on Agoda.

## Genting Skyworlds: two tips
1. **Check the kids' height rule before booking online.** We missed it, our child wasn't allowed in on the ticket we'd bought, and **we paid almost double at the gate** for the right one.
2. **Download the Skyworlds app.** You can book **up to three virtual queues**, so you don't stand in 45-minute lines, and check live wait times.

The park mixes thrilling simulators, family rides and themed zones. **Carry a raincoat**, because the weather in the hills changes fast.

## Skip: the outlet at Awana
Honestly, the outlet mall at Awana wasn't worth it. For outlet shopping, go to **Mitsui Outlet Park near KLIA airport** instead, which has better deals and more variety.
