Honestly, shopping in Penang felt much cheaper than Kuala Lumpur, with lots of variety and deals. We went all out, including Prashant's belated birthday present.

1st Avenue Mall

  • KKV: cute Shin-chan, Mickey and Minnie, panda stuff, mouse pads and crayons. All our childhood favourites.
  • Machines (an Apple reseller, ground floor): iPhone 16 Pro Max for 5,299 RM, the 16 Pro around 4,299 RM, and AirPods 4 for 799 RM. We bought the Desert Titanium, 256 GB and got a free AirTag (about ₹3,000 in India). Check warranty terms before buying.
  • Brands Outlet (2nd/3rd floor): the real bargain. A local brand with good quality: 3 T-shirts for about ₹1,100, dresses for 20–30 RM, shorts, joggers, bags and shoes. A one-stop family shop.
  • In the middle of the mall: Beverly Hills Polo Club stock sales. These are originals, not dupes, with handbags around 49 RM (about ₹1,000). Great gifts. Wallets and belts were 50% off.

Gurney Plaza (luxury)

Armani, Coach, Boss, Tommy, Rado, Karl Lagerfeld, with sales everywhere when we went. It has a good vibe and even displays luxury cars. Hush Puppies here sells bags and T-shirts too, not just shoes.

Uniqlo, H&M, Levi's

  • Uniqlo: T-shirts around 59 RM. The collection is a bit different from India's.
  • H&M: huge store, 50% off, from 39 RM. Cheaper than India.
  • Levi's: even at 70% off, pricier than India. Shirts worked out to about ₹3,000.

Prangin Mall

Gadgets, phone covers and first copies of poor quality. Bata was cheap, with shoes and loafers around 50 RM (about ₹1,000). Jade bangles for 10–15 RM. And we finally won a Labubu from a claw machine after wasting money in every country (yes, it's a dupe).

Mr DIY

Very organised, with everything categorised: souvenirs, gifts, umbrellas, caps and kids' toys (cars for 7 RM).

George Town for souvenirs

Magnets, luggage tags and more, good and cheap. George Town guide.

Refuel: Hainanese chicken rice

Our favourite since Singapore: tender chicken with rice cooked in chicken broth. Healthy and delicious.
